65daysofstatic music videos

I was an early collaborator with 65daysofstatic as, at the time of their inception, I was one of their only friends old enough to hire a van for tours. As we grew older, I stuck around and began to create video content for them - this included an early tour documentary, music videos and bootleg remixes. I also joined their touring crew as a visuals performer and was lucky enough to accompany them across the UK, Europe, Russia and Japan.

65daysofstatic - Thrash Waltz (2002)

Director, editor, camera operator

Shot at an early live show for the then unsigned three piece, this was my first ever music video and included as an Easter egg on the DVD release Unreleased/Unreleasable Vol3: The Kids Have Eyes.

65daysofstatic - retreat! retreat! (2004)

producer, co-director, editor, camera operator

Co-directed with Tim Parmee, this was shot over the course of a freezing cold day in a warehouse in deepest Sheffield and required over 30 takes. A hilarious fault with the edit saw the entire project lost less than two days before delivery and hastily rebuilt over 24 hours with only a concoction of caffeine and alcohol to keep me awake.

65daysofstatic - drove thru ghosts to get here (2005)

Producer

Our first animated music video, I produced this with Lord Bunn animating and Tim Parmee directing. It was a Kerrang exclusive release at the time.

65daysofstatic - AOD (2005)

Producer

Directed by Tim Parmee and originally created as live visuals to accompany the band’s slowest, dreamiest track - this video received a limited release on Unreleased / Unreleasable vol 3.

65daysofstatic - Radio protector (2006)

producer, director, editor

Featuring tour footage as well as archive environment footage, this video sought to look at the effect a simple tour from a rock band could have on the environment, with the band taking responsibility for their contributions to the pollution of the natural environment.

65daysofstatic - don’t go down to sorrow (2007)

producer, director, editor

Our first video shot by a professional DOP

65daysofstatic - the distant and mechanised glow of eastern european dance parties (2008)

producer, director, editor

Built from footage from a pirated Russian rave VHS tape and featuring footage of the band shot by their manager whilst in a dressing room in Spain, this is truly the unwanted bastard of 65os videos. Fun fact; it was turned down for broadcast by MTV for 270 separate violations.

documentary

Tour nice kids (2004)

Producer, director, editor

This documentary was shot on one of the band’s first UK tours and it really shows how very far they have come since those first early days. Considering it was shot on a miniDV camera and cut on an incredibly old and slow MacBook, it holds up remarkably well.

Remixes

65daysofstatic vs Christina aguilera - I’m dreaming of a white noise christmas (2005)

Producer, editor

In many ways, the archetypal 65dos remix video - baffling, messy, poorly encoded and weirdly watchable; this video uses perennial Christmas favourite Trading Places as a static-filled accompaniment to 65’s glitch heavy remix.

65daysofstatic vs natasha beddingfield - Natasha Beats the Devil (2005)

Producer

Edited by Paul Huxley, this deliriously repetitive remix of Natasha’s best known (only?) hit worms its way into your brain and poisons any other music you listen to for at least 24hrs, like a good pop song should.

65daysofstatic vs the buggles - MTV Year Zero (2010)

Producer, editor

Created especially for the Sensoria Festival in 2010, this video celebrated the launch of MTV and the fact that the Buggles’ ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’ was the first music video on the channel. Fun fact: most people on YouTube hate this.

65daysofstatic - the fall of media (2005)

Producer, editor

The director of the Troma movie ‘I was a Teenage TV Terrorist’ (which is sampled liberally throughout this bootleg) actually emailed us to say that this was one of the only times he’s seen his film interpreted as he intended. We’ll take that as an endorsement.
